Global Justice Project - Generation Justice
Empowering Tomorrow’s Legal Leaders to Defend the Rule of Law Today
The Rule of Law is the acknowledgement and operation of a robust system of laws, institutions, and commitment that delivers five principles of Justice: Accountability, Just Law, Impartial Justice, Open Government, and Accessible Justice.
The project is a multi-national movement for students, lawyers, activists and researchers seeking to shape the Future of Justice by defending the Rule of Law now. The project is based on activities, courses, discussions, and publication of articles and books.
The world is facing complex challenges, which require action now if they are to be overcome. Through courses, fieldwork, and experiential learning, the project is both multi-national and localised in that each aspect of the overall project is centred on the problems of each individual country. Many of these problems are the same, but there are always localised issues in each region. The project also advances theory, scholarship, and education in this critical area of human endeavour.
We work towards the goals of liberty, prosperity, and stability. We connect expertise and promote development of the Rule of Law in all contexts. We meet the challenges of a world where the Rule of Law is increasingly under threat.
Our principles are encapsulated in these 5 statements:
Accountability – No-one is above the Law. The government as well as all private entities and citizens are accountable and equal under the law.
Just Law - The law should be clear, publicized, and stable and applied evenly. It should ensure human rights as well as property, contract, and procedural rights.
Impartial Justice - Justice must be administered by neutrals who have no personal interest in the final decision.
Open Government - Legal processes to administer, adjudicate, and enforced the law must be fair and effective.
Accessible Justice - Justice should be timely, delivered by competent, ethical representatives who are accessible, adequately resourced, and reflect the communities they serve.
Objectives of the Rule of Law Project:
